MR. EDDIE ARDENEAUX IV

Instructor
MA, University of Georgia (at Athens), 2008

Eddie Ardeneaux IV returns after long wanderings to UNO, a once “homegrown” product of this fine institution. He received his BA in English, along with minors in History and Philosophy, in 2000, and graduated with University Honors. He followed up his stint at UNO by participating in a year exchange aboard in Prague, Czech Republic, through the Office of International Affairs. In Prague, he studied the novels of Kafka, Kundera, and Hrabal, as well as Czech history and politics. His triumphant return home was thwarted by various hurricanes (which will remain Nameless) and disasters, forcing the traveler to continue his travels in an unforeseen stint in Georgia. After eight months of retail in Atlanta, Eddie entered the MA program at UGA, where his focus, in a roundabout sense, and with many forays in all directions, from Medieval manuscripts to Composition Theory to Narrative Theory to Hegel (Hegel, really??), ended up the study of the 20th Century American Novel. His Master’s Thesis explores the influence and technological expansion of electricity and its influence on novels and narrative technique, specifically in the works of Ralph Ellison and E.L. Doctorow. After a desperate escape from Georgia, Eddie finally returned home this past summer, in 2008, and, through fortuity and the random weavings of fate, ended up back where he started, only fulfilling a different role in the classroom (Star Wars joke optional). He can mostly be found drinking coffee and puzzling over the very narrative that brought him here, trying to figure out how people move in (and through) circles. Somehow (defining this word in this context has become a personal and professional interest), novels help answer these questions.
