Retained Instructor Kathryn Fiddler joined the UNO English faculty in 1982. Since that time, she has regularly taught writing courses of English as a Second Language in addition to freshman composition, the introduction to fiction, and the introduction to poetry. An avid art enthusiast, she is designing a course that focuses on art and artists in fiction. Her research interests include both composition and literature. Her recently defended dissertation is entitled, “The Efficacy of Peer Review in Improving E.S.L. Students’ On-line Writing.” Currently, she is working on an article using the Reader-Response approach to literary criticism as theoretical framework. Future research plans include an on-site study designed to investigate the genre of the freshman essay. In addition to reading (primarily fiction), Dr. Fiddler enjoys playing golf, listening to live music, and traveling. Her favorite pastime while traveling is haunting museums and galleries to look at art. Recently read novels she recommends: Gilead by Marilynne Robinson and The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst. SELECTED PUBLICATIONS: American Contexts, Prentice Hall, 1996 (co-authored with Dr. Barbara Gaffney). Image: Point of View, Norman Olagues (artist)
