Retained Instructor, Barbara Gaffney received her BA from UMass- Boston and an M.A. in English and PH.D. in medieval language and literature from Arizona State University. She completed a second Masters in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language). She has been teaching at UNO since 1985, mainly ESL courses at all levels, Composition, Linguistics, and Introduction to Fiction. She spent a semester teaching American Literature in Spain and a summer in the Innsbruck program. Her publications include an ESL textbook co-authored with Kathryn Butcher, American Context: A Grammar with Readings as well as articles in ESL and popular culture. In recent years, she has written materials for several ESL textbook series and online publications. She has served as ESL coordinator for many terms and one term as Undergraduate Coordinator in English.
