Journalist in Residence/Publications Advisor Jim teaches Journalism courses and advises the UNO student newspaper, The Driftwood. He was an award-winning reporter before and during law school. Working for radio stations large (the former WGSO/WQUE in New Orleans) medium (KWKH/KROK in Shreveport, LA) and small (KRUS/KXKZ in Ruston, LA). He covered four Presidents, and snagged one of the last interviews John Wayne gave. As an anchor at KWKH in Shreveport, he read the news through the same microphone used by Elvis Presley and others on the legendary Louisiana Hayride program. Prior to his arrival at UNO, Jim taught the course in Law of Mass Communications to generations of Communications students at Loyola in New Orleans. His law practice includes a focus on Constitutional Law, in which he has developed a subspecialty in school library censorship. He is on the committee which reads and grades the Constitutional Law portion of the bi-annual Louisiana Bar Examination. His publications include “One Man’s Bach is Another’s Bacharach – The Case of FCC v WNCN Listeners’ Guild” Loyola Law Review, 1981 (concerning curtailing of the FCC’s broadcast program oversight authority). |
