Instructor
BA, James Madison University
MA, Middlebury College, 1975
Master of Letters, Middlebury College, 1984 (focus: Modern novel, American and British)
ESL Certificate, Royal Academy of the Arts, Cambridge,1989

Like Chaucer's clerk of The Canterbury Tales, it can be said of Lucinda Hilbrink that "gladly wolde (she) learn, and gladly teach." Lucinda has covered many a mile learning and teaching -- from Virginia to New Orleans to California to Europe and back to New Orleans. She has received Master of Arts and Master of Letters degrees from Middlebury College and has been certified to teach English as a Second Language by the Royal Academy of the Arts at Cambridge University, Cambridge, England.

In addition to teaching at UNO, Ms. Hilbrink has taught at the University of California at Santa Barbara; Santa Barbara Community College; the California Youth Authority (often referred to by its inmates as the "Kid Joint"); Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland; and at the Universitá Bocconi in Milano, Italy. She has also taught ESL in Granada, Spain, Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, and Lugano, Switzerland.

She has been awarded three National Endowment of the Humanities grants for the study of the Modern Novel, Chaucer, and Spanish-American Literature.

Her publications are both academic and mainstream, including an article on "The Knight's Tale" in The Florida Language Quarterly and essays in The Washington Post.

When not in New Orleans, Ms. Hilbrink can often be found at her home in Todos Santos, BCS, Mexico.

The Death of Artemio Cruz by Carlos Fuentes
