Retained Instructor Dr. Verner received her PhD with a concentration in Medieval and Renaissance Literature from Tulane University in 2001. Her dissertation, "The Epistemology of the Monstrous in Medieval Literature," studied the phenomena of monsters and marvels from the time of Pliny the Elder through the 14th century. She has presented conference papers on women's writing, medieval drama, and medieval travel narrative as well as monsters and dragons, and has published in the area of composition pedagogy. Scholarly interests include all kinds of medieval literature, but especially women's writing and Anglo-Saxon literature.
